Rusty Wise's biography

Rusty Wise

Born VERA TERZIC in Basingstoke, England. Rusty’s parents were refugee’s from war torn Serbia, who met and married in their new and much loved homeland.

Rusty’s upbringing was simple, and based in the country where chickens, ducks, pigs and ponies were her daily companions.  Christmas and Easter were special times when the family caught a train to London to celebrate the religious festivals in the Serbian Orthodox Church of Sveta Sava, in Ladbrooke Grove.

She was educated in Villa Maria Servite Convent School in Bognor Regis West Sussex, and then in the local Secondary School, where she attained one or two O’levels.

She currently lives in North Yorkshire in the beautiful and famous Herriot Country, where she has kept chickens, goats, horses and bees producing honey for the local Farmers Markets and Farm shops.
Writing has always been a love of her life as well as painting, gardening and  horse riding.

She tells the story of how as a child with parents who had very little spare cash for writing materials, she used to write, with the stub of an old pencil left by a visiting carpenter, make and produce her own books out of animal feed bags, cutting the paper into pages, stitching them together with the string, also provided by the feed sacks and then writing and illustrating them. Sadly those books are long lost… How interesting would they have been now?

Rusty plans in the future to move to the beautiful island of Crete, to take up a full time writing career, the subject of which will always be closely linked to the countryside, to nature and to all the flowers, insects and  animals both  large and small that she loves so much.

She has currently written and illustrated four children’s’ books, and is working on various projects including a comedy drama for TV, a couple of novels and some more childrens books.
