Born in 1946, in Ripon, North Yorkshire UK. My grandparents were farmers on one side and bakers on the other. Life was hard after World War Two and my father wanted to be an agricultural engineer rather than a farmer so we moved to Thirsk ten miles down the road when I was seven where we bought an engineering business. This was where I have spent the rest of my life.
While at school I considered being a fisherman or a chef but ended up following my father in the business. We became involved with a glider club, and I learned to fly from the from the age of twelve, and on my sixteenth birthday I was given my solo glider licence to fly. By the time I was seventeen I held a pilots licence.
I then got involved with motor sport and started rallying a Mini Cooper S. I had also been given a boat at the age of nine which I had sailed on the local river.
I spent many years working on road side recovery and building rally cars then in 1975 I became interested in gas conversions for cars, and was one of the first in the UK to start the business. As time went on I built a good business in Autogas, called Autogas 2000. We converted the Queens Rolls Royce, power boats, glider winches and go-karts plus many other vehicles.
In 1999 I had a stroke and had to retire, my interest from my younger days started me thinking about cooking again, hence this book.
